Description:
Lee's Chapel is a warm fellowship of Christian disciples who are discovering the nature and will of God together. Many of those who come to our church find it a place where they are immediately welcomed and loved. Those responses are encouraging to us, because we believe it is important to love God and to show His love for others.
Our church is located in a small community called Plain View, just outside of Dunn, North Carolina. The name of our community has inspired our slogan "God's love in Plain View". This slogan reminds us that we are to show God's love to our community and world by being salt to preserve life and light in dark places. Jesus said, "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16 NIV). We are to be God's love, and we stive to show that love, in Plain View, to everyone so that they will "praise our Father in heaven."
Denomination and Doctrines:
Our church has been affiliated with the Cape Fear Conference of the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists since we were founded in 1892. The history of this denomination can be traced back to the General Baptists of the
Seperatists movement in England during the late 17th Century. The doctrines of our denomination are similar to all mainline evangelical denominations. There are two charateristics that while not entirely unique to Original Free Will Baptists are less common among other baptists and some other denominations. First, Original Free Will Baptists practice Washing of the Saints Feet as an ordinance of the gospel. Like the Lord's Supper, practice of this ordinance is not required of an individual for membership or good standing in the church. Second, we hold the belief that a person may, by their own free will, choose to make a definate turn from their Christian faith and walk and thereby give up their hope and promise of eternal life in heaven. A brief description of our denomination can be found at the OFWB Convention website or at
answers.com. For a detailed listing of the doctrines and beliefs of Original Free Will Baptists, see our Articles of Faith and Church Covenant.
Mission:
Our mission is to fulfill the “Great Commandment” (Matthew 22:37-39) and the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:19-20).
