How would you have to respond if asked “Do you know Jesus?” Would you be able to give general answers that
show you have some knowledge of Him or could you really say that you know Him truly and deeply.
Is Jesus among the very closest of relationships in your life? Your answer to that question is important to the quality
of your present, future and eternal life. The good news is that because Jesus wants you to know Him better, He has made a way.
Salvation
The Bible talks about something called “salvation,” which means being set free from the penalty of sin
(eternal death) and receiving the promise of forgiveness (eternal life). John 3:16, perhaps the best-know
verse in the Bible, tells of this great promise. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” If you have questions or doubts
about the promise of salvation, contact a Christian friend. Also, read through the pamphlet “How to Find the
Answers”.
Help with Temptations
Living a Christian life is not always easy. You are called to be a new person and put away the sinful part of
your old life. However, you will likely stumble and fall from time to time. Satan wants to destroy you for
all eternity and now that you are following Christ, Satan will wait and find some point of spiritual weakness
to attack. Don’t be surprised when this happens! Rather, learn to take your eyes off your own weaknesses and
put your trust and focus on God through Jesus Christ. He is able to help you. The Bible says:
“But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience.
And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it.
When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.” —1 Corinthians 10:13
Help of the Holy Spirit
Usually, our actions begin as thoughts. If we think bad thoughts we eventually begin to do bad things, but if we
think good thoughts, we eventually begin to do good things. Unfortunately, we inherit a sinful nature which
fills our mind with thoughts that are bad. So that you will have a way to have God’s thoughts in your heart,
He gave you a gift of His Spirit when you accepted Christ. The Holy Spirit is a constant presents with you who
will “guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Rather than dwelling on thoughts from your old nature, or trying
to not think bad thoughts, focus your attention on godly things with the help of the Holy Spirit. “Fix your
thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
—Philippians 4:8
Help of the Church
Once we get to know someone well, it is natural that we meet their other friends and perhaps even make friends with
them as well. God intended for you to be a part of a church where you can grow, learn, serve and worship.
The Bible says, “You belong in God’s household with every other Christian” (Ephesians 2:19b LB).
If you are not regularly attending church, then ask God to lead you to the church where He wants you to attend.
Talk with the pastor about the membership requirements and seek the right time and place to become a member of the church where He leads you.
"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.”
—Hebrews 10:25
